I am a self-taught artist living in a very small town in western Massachusetts near the New Hampshire border. I have loved the natural world all my life that is why we have chosen to live out in the “boonies” as some people would say. It is a great place to get inspiration for my work.

 

I started drawing one day for something to pass the time while I waited for my house to be finished. My first attempt at drawing was a chipmunk using a graphite pencil on ordinary paper. I never tried drawing anything so I was quite surprised as it actually looked like a chipmunk! As time went on, my love for creating art and trying other mediums led me to expand into colored pencils, acrylics, charcoal, and watercolors….

 

I realized that I really, really enjoyed it and I have never stopped since.

That was twenty years ago…

 

As you can see, I work mostly with colored pencils now. I like them because it allows me to get the fine detail that I love and if I need to stop for a while, I just lay down the pencil without worrying about my paints drying out.

 

Most of the drawings and paintings that I have done in the past have been gifts for family members and friends.  I was intimidated by the word “artist”; it sounded so professional and that is something I never thought I was.  They finally convinced me that I am an “artist” and need to get myself out there so others may enjoy my creations.
